As a highly accomplished public affairs professional with over a decade of experience in the U.S. foreign service and intelligence communities, Michael has earned a reputation as a mission-focused, impact-driven communicator. Michael joins Steer most recently from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) where, as a public affairs officer, he expertly managed communications priorities between the agency and its countless industry, international and congressional partners. Before NGA, Michael spent several years with the public affairs team at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and as a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State.

Michael brings a wealth of experience in partner engagement, strategic and crisis communications and is a skillful writer and content creator who is adept at aligning goals with targeted messaging.

Prior to joining the intelligence community, Michael was commissioned as a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State and traveled the world as a management officer, supporting U.S. diplomacy efforts worldwide, including Lima, Peru; Belgrade, Serbia; Moscow, Russia; and Managua, Nicaragua.

A native Virginian, Michael graduated from James Madison University with a bachelor's in political science and a master's in public administration. He currently lives in Richmond with his wife, Kayla and their son, Miles.
